W480 AIS+DSC MOB in METS 2024

For all the professional operators who work at sea on commercial, fishing or military vessels or on offshore platforms, there is an important novelty regarding “safety at sea”: new personal safety MOB devices (Man Overboard) called W480, is available on the market. It will be presented for the first time by the Italian company Wamblee srl at 2024 Mets Show edition, in Amsterdam.

This device is essential in case of an emergency like the accidental fall of one or more persons into the sea waters or the vessel sinking. In such cases it is crucial that fallen people are localized and saved the soonest as possible and it is also vital that the device can work even if the person is wounded or has lost consciousness.
The W480 safety device can be fixed to self-inflatable jackets via the tear-to-open tape retainer or via the handy clip provided for fixing to the inflating mouthpiece.

The device starts automatically when its sea-sensors come into contact with the sea water but it can also be started manually by the operator by pressing the Test/Activation pushbutton. Its special design (It is equipped with a mechanical lock preventing unwanted activation or deactivation) and the layout of the controls positionned on the front part make easy and safe any test or activation operation by the operator, even if he is wearing industrial gloves.

After activation, the safety device emits a number of SAR signals: the W480 emits an AIS SART message and DSC message according international rule Class M AMRD Type A.

Together with the emission of the radio signals, the device has a high efficiency flashing light that starts and aids localisation of the person in conditions of poor visibility.

The device is also available in ATEX version.
