CEPT FM58 Meeting in Bologna

CEPT FM58 Meeting Bologna 2024

Bologna is preparing to host an event of international importance in the maritime telecommunications sector. Thanks to the commitment of Wamblee, a Faenza-based company specializing in radio communications, the FM58 group of the European Conference of Postal and Telecommunications Administrations (CEPT) will meet on October 30 and 31.
For the first time in over twenty years, Italy will have an active representation within this important European
organization, which defines the standards and regulations for radio communications in the maritime sector. Wamblee, after raising the issue of Italy’s lack of participation, was appointed by the Ministry of Business and Made in Italy (MIMIT) to represent our country’s needs within the
FM58 group.
“We are extremely proud of this result,” explains Daniele Banfi, owner of Wamblee. “Participation in the FM58 group is essential to ensure that the needs of Italian companies and mariners are represented at a European level. Furthermore, hosting the meeting in Bologna, the birthplace of Guglielmo Marconi, the father of radio, is a way to celebrate his legacy and highlight the importance of Italy in the telecommunications sector”.
On the occasion of the meeting, the FM58 group will also visit Villa Grifone in Pontecchio Marconi, where Marconi conducted his first experiments. The amateur radio station present in the villa will be activated with a special callsign for the event.
“The choice of Bologna as the location of the meeting was dictated by the desire to celebrate the 150th anniversary of Marconi’s birth”, explain MIMIT. “Marconi was a pioneer of wireless communications and his work revolutionized maritime navigation. We are convinced that this event represents an important opportunity to pay homage to him and to promote innovation in the telecommunications sector”.
The FM58 group meeting is part of a broader context of relaunching the telecommunications sector in Italy. Wamblee’s active participation at a European level is a positive sign and demonstrates how Italian companies can play a leading role in international decision-making processes.
The Faenza-based company’s man-overboard radio signals are used by customers all over the world and are known for their quality and reliability, installed both on recreational sports boats and on ships that travel in the Antarctic,
“Our motivation – concludes Banfi – is strong, thanks also to a team of professionals, all local, who can be said to ‘row’ all in the same direction”
